Magdalena McGuire is an award-winning author who was born in Poland, raised in the tropics of the Northern Territory and now lives in Melbourne.

Magdalena is passionate about using clear prose to craft vivid stories with a strong emotional core. Her writing has won, and been shortlisted for, various awards including The Allan Marshall Short Story Award, Deborah Cass Memorial Prize, The Impress Prize, The Bristol Short Story Prize, Mslexia Short Fiction Competition, the Queensland Literary Awards and the NSW Premier’s Literary Awards.

   

 Magdalena has a background in law and plain language communication. In a former life, she worked in the community sector, where she interviewed people about the troubles they faced, and translated their experiences into stories that were used to advocate for progressive social change. This belief, that stories can change the world, is one that continues to drive Magdalena’s creative writing.
